What was meant to be: Pretty pictures photography?

And she always thought about it as a passion that was meant to be at the back seats, but who knew that her creativity could kick her mere passion and take it to the front seat and drive her life to a complete new world, her world.

Raised in a South Indian joint family and now a mother to a 5 year old son started her career with advertising and moved onto starting her own firm with her husband way back in 2008. And about two years ago she took up photography as her main stream career and began photographing babies and parents-to-be under the name of Pretty Pictures Photography.

Preethi is a Bangalore based photographer specializing in posed newborn photography, maternity portraits and mini sessions for older babies and toddlers. Photography to her is a visual look-back on moments that has passed and is now etched as beautiful memories lasting forever. She is certified by the ‘Accredited Professional Newborn Photographers International’ and listed as a member of the ‘International Newborn Photography Association’. Her sessions are based on concepts and themes that are unique and creative which sets her apart from other talented photographers. She also has a degree in Journalism, Psychology and Literature from Christ University, Bangalore and Masters in Communication from Manipal University, Manipal.

“Newborn Photography holds a special place in my heart. When I embarked the journey of motherhood a few years ago, I realized how important it is to preserve every moment of it and relive those times repeatedly as we watch ourselves grow older over the years. Before you know, the joys of the little one’s arrival and those fleeting moments fade away into the past. The special moments of today are soon going to be lost memories of tomorrow and hence deserve to be captured, preserved and passed down from one generation to the next” are preethi’s words on this special kind of Photography. Also she wanted to take a break from the corporate race and pursue her hobby -photography. She used to photograph wildlife and landscapes a decade ago and then motherhood took priority and travels got fewer over the years. She was always known to be an artistic person and wanted to unleash this creativity within. What better than blending the two – creativity and passion!

Newborn Photography is about posing babies between 5-15 days after birth, and this was something which was very niche back then and very few photographers who were certified to handle such delicate little humans. There are many baby and children photographers in India but not too many qualified to handle just born babies. So, that’s where her journey on this new path began. And there are many newborn photographers across the globe who are great with their work and style, but she is fond of Kelly Brown, Ana Brandt, Meg Bitton, Jade Gao, Claudia, to name a few and has been honored to have been mentored by a few of them as well.

She has been contributing to various awareness campaigns such as normalising public breastfeeding, infertility programs, and so on and is always motivated to do more work for the community. It is her passion that has now become her profession.

She also conducts online and offline ‘one to one mentoring sessions’ and ‘workshops’ on various aspects of photography like basics for beginners as well as advanced courses on various genres, lighting and editing techniques for experienced photographers.

Her journey reminds about the famous quote from the Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist “And when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it” and she did achieve her dream, and here is what she has to say to all aspirers out there,

“Do what makes you happy, feel the passion and believe in the journey you have embarked. The rest will follow. Believe in supporting, helping and even learning from others. We are here to thrive, not as mere competitors but as a community creating beautiful images.” ~ Preethi Sriram Anirudh
