Celebrity hairstylist Rashid Salmani is making rapid strides in the glamour world in India with his work ethics and unique styles he offers his clients. The Delhi-based hairstylist hobnobs with several renowned Indian and international names due to his increasing popularity and his demand skyrockets as the IPL approach due to his high demand amongst cricketers.
Rashid, who started as a basic hairstylist, has established himself as one of the most popular celebrity stylists in the country. He is in demand not just amongst the celebrities his creativity and innovations have put Rashid in great demand amongst fashionistas.
Rashid runs a unisex salon named ‘Studio 17’, located in Ashok Vihar Phase-3 in New Delhi. The celebrity hairstylist, who has invented several looks of his own, commands a high-end clientele comprising cricketers, models, actors, politicians, and corporates.
Rashid’s popularity has taken him to places as he’s styled the actors and actresses in various Punjabi music videos and television actors. “I have worked as a hairstylist to several actors and actresses in many Punjabi songs and frequently getting offers,” says Rashid on his work experience with the glamour world. Rashid – who has featured in top news channels and publications like Times of India, Hindustan Times, Star Sports, and many more – also takes a great deal of pride for styling a large number of cricketers and added a new dimension to their looks with his unique vogues.
Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Nitish Rana, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Prithvi Shaw, and Shubman Gill are his permanent clients and they trust him completely. He has styled overseas players likes Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Kagiso Rabada, Colin de Grandhomme, Faf du Plessis, Sam Billings, Jason Roy, David Miller, Marcus Stoinis, etc. during the IPL and they always ask for his services whenever they are in India.
“I have offered my services to domestic and overseas players of almost every IPL franchise.
Players like Kagiso Rabada, Rashid Khan, Tim Southee, and Trent Boult have complete faith in me. Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders players are my regular customers. Many South African players approach me when they were in India,” says Rashid with pride in his eyes.
Domestic cricketers like Nitish Rana, Kulwant Khejrolia, Harshal Patel, Rahul Tewatia, Shivam Chauhan, Shivam Mavi who are trend-setters in the domestic circuit are also his permanent clients. The presence of such a diverse clientele means Rashid is busy 24×7 and he even prefers working at odd hours.
“Hairstyling is my passion and I love doing it so I am ready to offer services to my clients even at odd hours. There have been several instances when I’ve styled my clients around 2 or 3 am. They have always liked my commitment and dedication to my craft,” Rashid adds further.

Rashid started as a normal hairstylist but his zeal to improve has taken him places. He was the regional finalist during the 2018-19 L’Oreal Indian Hairdressing Awards (IHA) and that also helped him get popular amongst celebrities.
“It was my dream to participate in the Indian Hairdressing Awards from the day I started as a hairstylist. And the day I walked the ramp with my designs as the regional finalist at the 2018-19 L’Oreal IHA, it gave me wings. It was a very emotional moment and my work got a lot of attention. I always try keeping myself abreast of the latest trends in the industry. I still take masterclasses organized by international hair artists and L’Oreal professionals to keep myself up to date with latest fashion trends,” says Rashid.
Rashid strongly believes in research and prepares a mood board ahead of any major assignment so that he has a lot of options to offer to his clients. He takes a lot of inspiration from nature and invents new looks accordingly as nature is full of colors and vibrance.
Talking about the kind of styles he offers to his clients, Rashid says, “My forte is to play with good shapes, textured and disconnected haircuts. I love giving a personalized look as per my client’s physique and personality and shape of their face, and that is why they keep coming back to me. I also recommend coloring because it is like make-up. Textured, next-day and
soft wave looks are in demand these days and I keep innovating with them as well.”
Rashid has a firm belief in good eduction for that is the only way to learn about new things and expand knowledge. Good education also helps the hairstylists to communicate better with celebrities and international stars.
“Education is equally important in this profession and I always look to give myself time to learn different skills. If I am aware of things, then only I’ll be able to cater to my clients’ needs because every client is unique in his/her way. Also, a lot of research goes into inventing a new look or style and education plays an important role here,” Rashid says.
Rashid also shared hair care tips during the lockdown and urged the people to shampoo as per the quality of their scalp and hair.
“Everyone is confined to his/her home due to the coronavirus lockdown. So my advice to them during this period is that they stay indoors and stay safe. They should use shampoo and conditioner regularly to keep their scalp and hair clean. If your scalp is dry, then shampoo twice a week; and if your scalp is oily then use shampoo-conditioner every day or every alternate day. One should also keep oiling their scalp from time to time and give a gentle massage as it improves the blood circulation. But one must also remember that they should not keep the oil for too long as it attracts dust particles and damages the cuticle. So, rinse your scalp with shampoo and use conditioner sometime after applying the oil,” he signs off.
